John Jacob Mechling

was born 28 February 1747, baptized 20 April 1747 at Evangelical Lutheran Church of Upper Milford with Thomas Kurr and his wife, Elizabeth as Godparents. Jacob took communion on the first time in 1764. On the 19 April 1774 Jacob took out a warrant for land and received the patent from Thomas Penn and John Penn on 16 March 1775 for 311 acres purchased in Hempfield township in Westmoreland County, PA. During the Revolutionary War, he served as Captain of the 4th Battalion of the Pennsylvania Militia. The 1783 Tax List shows John Jacob with 300 acres, 3 horses, 4 cows and 6 sheep. He died 8 November 1824 and is buried in Feightner Cemetery near Youngwood, Westmoreland County, PA.
